PARIS – French authorities have placed a man and a woman under formal investigation in connection with the $102 million jewel heist at the Louvre Museum, bringing the total number of suspects charged to four, the Paris prosecutor said on Saturday.
The 37-year-old man, previously known to police for theft, was charged with organised theft and criminal conspiracy, while the 38-year-old woman faced charges of complicity in organised theft and conspiracy. Both suspects, who deny involvement, remain in pre-trial detention.

Three other individuals arrested alongside them on October 29 were released without charge, officials confirmed. Earlier, two suspects — a 34-year-old Algerian and a 39-year-old Frenchman — had partially admitted their roles in the high-profile theft, which shocked the world.
The daring heist saw two hooded thieves use a mover’s lift to reach a second-floor window, smash display cases with power tools, and flee on scooters with their accomplices. No trace of the stolen jewels has yet been found, and investigations remain ongoing.
