Maryam Nawaz, German lawmaker vow to strengthen Pakistan–Germany ties

Pakistan and Germany share common values of peace, progress and human dignity: CM Punjab
LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and Germany share the values of peace, development, and human dignity, emphasizing the two nations’ longstanding partnership built on democracy and cooperation.

She made these remarks during a meeting with Derya Türk-Nachbaur, a member of the German Parliament, in Lahore. The discussion covered a wide range of areas including women’s empowerment, education, youth exchange programs, environmental protection, and clean energy initiatives.

Maryam Nawaz warmly welcomed the German parliamentarian and thanked Germany for its solidarity with Pakistan during the recent floods. She congratulated the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) on its 100th anniversary and commended its 35 years of service in Pakistan, noting its vital role in promoting democracy and social justice.

Highlighting Pakistan and Germany’s shared democratic values, the Chief Minister praised Derya Türk-Nachbaur’s advocacy for inclusive policymaking, gender equality, and human rights. She proposed that FES organize training workshops for lawmakers, young leaders, and women parliamentarians to strengthen democratic governance.

Maryam Nawaz also expressed interest in adopting Germany’s dual vocational training model to improve youth employability and encouraged greater German investment in renewable energy, IT services, agriculture, and clean manufacturing. She noted that over 10,000 Pakistani students are currently pursuing education in Germany.

Reiterating her government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, she mentioned flagship initiatives such as the E-Bike Scheme, Honahar Scholarship Program, and Women Inclusive Program, designed to enhance women’s participation in the economy.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, saying landmarks like the Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens, and Data Darbar represent the province’s shared civilizational legacy. She invited German institutions to collaborate on cultural and artistic projects.

Concluding the meeting, Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed that Pakistan and Germany are committed to deepening their friendship through parliamentary dialogue, sustainable development, and mutual cooperation.
