The cabinet formation followed Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation on October 8. PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja confirmed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan directed the appointment of Sohail Afridi as the new chief minister. The resignation process faced delays due to signature discrepancies, causing temporary legal uncertainty.
On October 13, the provincial assembly elected Sohail Afridi as the 30th chief minister with 90 votes. Governor Kundi initially termed the election unconstitutional until Gandapur’s resignation was formally accepted. The matter reached Peshawar High Court, which ordered the governor to administer the oath to Afridi by October 15.
