LOS ANGELES – Pop sensation Billie Eilish has confessed that she nearly cut her now-hit track Birds of a Feather from her 2024 album Hit Me Hard and Soft, calling it “stupid” during early production stages.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the Grammy-winning artist revealed she strongly opposed including the song, which she co-created with her brother and producer Finneas. “Multiple times I was like, ‘We should cut this,’” Billie admitted, explaining that the song’s upbeat tone felt unusual compared to her darker, introspective sound.

Eilish said her doubts persisted even after the album’s completion. “Even when I played the whole album for the label, I was like, ‘Guys, this one is kind of stupid,’” she recalled. However, her initial skepticism was proven wrong as Birds of a Feather became a massive success — crowned Spotify’s most-streamed song of 2024 with over 1.77 billion streams.
The song’s popularity soared further when it earned nominations for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards (2025).
