Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that Karachi is the heart of Pakistan – a city that represents economic vibrancy, cultural diversity, and human resilience. He stated that the vision of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Government of Sindh is to place Karachi among the ranks of the world’s leading cities by promoting modern urban facilities, eco-friendly transport, clean energy, and balanced urban planning.
He said that presenting Karachi’s stance at an international platform like the Asia Pacific Cities Summit in Dubai is a matter of great pride and a testament to the fact that Karachi is opening new doors of development and cooperation at the global level. Being recognized among the major cities of the world as a milestone of Asian development is a significant achievement, reflecting that the city of Karachi is on the right path toward sustainable growth.
He expressed these views while representing Karachi internationally at the Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) held in Dubai, which brought together mayors, city leaders, policymakers, and development experts from across the world. The participants shared ideas and strategies on urban planning, climate change, modern infrastructure, and sustainable development.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the development projects underway in Karachi are not limited to roads, buildings, or basic infrastructure; rather, they represent a journey of restoring human dignity, equality, and justice. He mentioned that the construction of 2.1 million climate-resilient homes has been completed – a remarkable step that not only addresses environmental challenges but also provides citizens with safe, modern, and sustainable housing.
He added that this initiative is, in fact, a means of promoting dignity, equality, and social stability. By granting home ownership to women, the government has not only empowered them economically but also laid the foundation for self-reliance and confidence.
Mayor Wahab further said that every new house symbolizes resilience against climate change, compassion for humanity, and national determination. These projects reflect the philosophy that the nation’s resources must be utilized for the nation’s welfare – a vision that is guiding Karachi towards becoming a greener, more organized, and modern metropolis.
He emphasized that making Karachi once again a hub of global trade, investment, and urban cooperation is among his top priorities. To achieve this, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is rapidly implementing projects based on modern technology, digital governance, clean energy, public transport, and environmental balance.
“We have shown the world,” said Mayor Wahab, “that even when resources were scarce, we rebuilt hope and life. Today, we are not merely reconstructing infrastructure; we are laying the foundation of a society based on justice, equality, and dignity.”
He stated that Karachi’s development journey has moved beyond physical reconstruction – it has become a symbol of collective national recovery and prosperity. The city is playing a vital role not only in Pakistan’s economic progress but also in the development of the entire region.
In conclusion, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab reaffirmed his commitment that KMC, in partnership with its citizens, will continue building a future where every resident experiences progress, convenience, and pride – and Karachi once again shines globally as a beacon of hope, innovation, and sustainable growth.
