Despite the Punjab government’s relentless efforts to streamline traffic on the roads, accidents are increasing due to chaotic traffic, despite the imposition of heavy fines for violations of traffic rules.
According to information shared by the Traffic Department in Lahore, 373 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in the past nine months, while 168 people became disabled for life due to injuries.
According to Lahore Police statistics, Saddar Division ranks first in traffic accidents with 107 deaths, Cantt Division ranks second with 91 deaths, and Model Town Division ranks third with 62 deaths.
According to Lahore Police statistics, City Division is in fourth place with 48 deaths, Civil Lines Division is in fifth place with 36 deaths, and Iqbal Town Division is in sixth place with 29 deaths. Police statistics further reveal that Lahore’s Model Town Division leads in terms of lifetime disability, with 52 people in traffic accidents.
Cantt Division is second with 43 accidents, City Division is third with 31 accidents, Saddar Division is fourth with 25 accidents, Civil Lines Division is fifth with 11 accidents, while Iqbal Town Division is sixth with 6 accidents. Police officials say that the reason for deaths and injuries in traffic accidents is speeding.
