
KARACHI: Meta AI has been launched in Urdu, allowing Pakistani users to interact in both Urdu and English. The move aims to accelerate digital transformation across the country.
The launch coincided with the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, organized with Pakistan’s Ministry of IT & Telecom. Meta also announced pilot programs for AI education and government digital transformation initiatives.
As part of the launch, Meta introduced a local edition of its guide, Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama, developed with Deloitte. The guide explains how the open-source AI model, Llama, can improve government services, efficiency, and data autonomy.

Meta, in collaboration with HEC, NCEAC, MoITT, and AtomCamp, launched the AI Literacy Program to train 350 non-computer science university faculty. This initiative will prepare students for emerging technology challenges. Additionally, the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program was started to provide government institutions with Meta technologies, solutions, and best practices.

Federal Minister for IT Shiza Fatima highlighted that the inclusion of Urdu in Meta AI is a milestone for inclusive technology. Meta’s regional director, Sarim Aziz, added that the initiative helps the public sector and educational institutions use AI effectively and connect local communities to technology in their native language.
