Mother of journalist Arshad Sharif passes away in Islamabad

Riffat Ara Alvi, the mother of slain Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, passed away in Islamabad after a brief illness. The news was confirmed by Arshad Sharif’s wife on Sunday, leaving friends, family, and supporters deeply saddened. Details regarding her funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be announced soon as condolences continue to pour in from across the country.

Late Arshad Sharif, a prominent investigative journalist, was tragically killed in Kenya in 2022, an incident that sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice. His mother, Riffat Ara Alvi, had since been remembered for her strength and resilience throughout the painful pursuit of truth and accountability in her son’s case. Her passing marks the end of a chapter for a family that has endured immense loss.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi expressed heartfelt condolences over her death, praising her courage and unwavering dignity in the face of tragedy. He described her as “a brave mother who raised a son devoted to truth and journalistic integrity,” adding that her strength continues to inspire many.

The chief minister also paid tribute to Arshad Sharif’s legacy, calling him a fearless and principled journalist whose sacrifice for truth and justice remains a symbol of pride for Pakistan. He said the journalist’s contributions would be forever remembered as a milestone in the nation’s media history.

Offering prayers for the departed soul, CM Afridi prayed for peace, patience, and strength for the bereaved family. He remarked that Arshad Sharif’s devotion to honest journalism and his mother’s steadfast courage would continue to serve as a reminder of the power of integrity and perseverance.
