At least three Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) policemen, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations Asad Zubair, were martyred in twin bomb blasts in Hangu district on Friday, police confirmed.

According to officials, the first explosion occurred near a police checkpoint in Ghulmina, causing no casualties. However, as SP Zubair and his team rushed to the site, their vehicle was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Darband area, about two kilometres away, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries to three other policemen.

KP Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed said that SP Zubair and two of his subordinates embraced martyrdom in the second blast. The wounded officers were immediately shifted to the DHQ Hospital in Hangu for medical treatment, while a bomb disposal squad and police commandos launched a search operation in the area.

President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemns the Hangu attack by India-backed Khawarij terrorists. He said terrorists are enemies of Pakistan’s peace and stability. He paid tribute to martyred SP Asad Zubair and police personnel, praying for the martyrs and their families.
