“Clean air for all”: Maryam Aurangzeb leads Punjab’s anti-smog campaign

Published on: October 23, 2025 6:20 PM

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said on Thursday that the Punjab government is taking practical steps to fight smog and protect citizens’ health. Speaking at Kinnaird College, she warned that smog could severely disrupt daily life and economic activities if not controlled. She stressed that this year, for the first time, the government has launched on-ground measures to reduce pollution and improve air quality across the province.

She said the government is committed to keeping the environment clean by addressing the root causes of smog. For this purpose, brick kilns across Punjab have been shifted to zigzag technology to reduce harmful emissions. Aurangzeb explained that these changes are part of a broader strategy to promote cleaner air and limit the use of outdated, polluting methods in industries.

Moreover, she highlighted that several reforms have already shown results. The government has imposed a historic ban on plastic bags for the first time in Punjab’s history. She added that steps are also being taken to improve the Air Quality Index (AQI), which has seen positive changes due to these environmental actions.

To ensure implementation, a special helpline has been created to report violations immediately. A dedicated “Smog War Room” has also been established to monitor air conditions and coordinate responses. Aurangzeb said that strict action would be taken against any individual or business found violating environmental laws.

Maryam Aurangzeb concluded that a clean and healthy environment is only possible through public cooperation. The Punjab government has launched awareness campaigns across the province to educate citizens about pollution control. She urged everyone to join hands with the government, saying that together they can create a cleaner, greener Punjab for future generations.
