PNS YARMOOK seizes $972M in drugs in Arabian sea

Published on: October 22, 2025 3:30 PM

Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) YARMOOK seized drugs worth $972 million during a major operation in the North Arabian Sea. The ship was part of the Saudi-led Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150), which works to maintain maritime security. According to the Pakistan Navy, this success highlights their strong commitment to regional safety and global peace. The Combined Maritime Forces praised the operation, emphasizing the fight against illegal trafficking at sea.

During a 48-hour period, PNS YARMOOK boarded two dhows that had no identification or nationality. The first vessel carried over two tons of crystal methamphetamine, also known as ICE. The drugs had an estimated street value of $822.4 million. Less than two days later, the crew found 350 kilograms of ICE worth $140 million and 50 kilograms of cocaine valued at $10 million on the second dhow. After testing, the narcotics were destroyed by the navy.

The Pakistan Navy said the operation shows its active role in keeping the Indian Ocean Region safe. Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, praised the crew for their professionalism and dedication. He stressed that Pakistan Navy remains committed to protecting maritime interests and contributing to global security. The success also improves cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

PNS YARMOOK supports various maritime tasks and missions. The ship can carry a helicopter and an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for surveillance. It can also launch two high-speed rigid-hulled inflatable boats simultaneously. Additionally, the ship can carry two containers for special operations. These capabilities make YARMOOK a valuable asset for the Pakistan Navy.
