The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing to restart renovation work at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium next month, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance cricket infrastructure nationwide. The new phase of development aims to remodel enclosures and facilities in line with the recently upgraded Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, ensuring an improved match-day experience for both players and fans.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the renovation will not only focus on structural upgrades but also on improving comfort and visibility for spectators. The PCB intends to modernize several key areas, including seating arrangements, digital displays, and lighting systems, to match international standards. This initiative reflects the board’s commitment to promoting Pakistan as a top-tier venue for global cricket events.

Earlier, major cricket venues such as the National Bank Stadium, Gaddafi Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium were upgraded before the ICC Champions Trophy 2024. During the first phase of Karachi’s renovation, the PCB installed advanced LED floodlights, new digital screens, and thousands of high-quality seats to accommodate fans more comfortably. The state-of-the-art pavilion constructed during that phase included modern dressing rooms, hospitality boxes, and media areas designed to meet ICC benchmarks.
While the Lahore stadium has already undergone significant transformation, sources confirmed that the PCB has no immediate plans to install roofing over its stands. Instead, the board’s current focus remains on finalizing Karachi’s upgrades and ensuring that the venue meets global standards before upcoming domestic and international fixtures. These improvements are expected to boost the city’s capacity to host high-profile matches in the near future.

In addition to these renovation projects, the PCB is collaborating with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on constructing a new cricket stadium in Islamabad. The CDA will maintain management and operational control of the new facility, while the PCB will supervise cricketing activities and event operations. This collaboration aims to expand Pakistan’s modern cricketing infrastructure, ensuring better opportunities for players and fans across the country.
