PM Shehbaz heads to Saudi for key talks

Published on: October 20, 2025 4:32 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Saudi Arabia next week for a three-day official visit. He will be joined by top military officials, political leaders, and federal ministers. During the visit, the Prime Minister will meet with Saudi Arabia’s senior leadership. He will also address the Future Investment Initiative summit in Riyadh. This summit focuses on global investment and economic cooperation.

This visit follows Shehbaz Sharif’s earlier trip to Saudi Arabia on September 17. During that visit, he and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed a strategic defense agreement. The agreement says an attack on one country will be treated as an attack on both. It shows a new level of trust and defense cooperation between the two nations. Both sides called the deal historic and vital for regional peace.

The timing of the agreement reflects rising tensions in the Middle East and South Asia. Recently, Israel launched an attack on Qatar, triggering strong reactions from Arab leaders. In response, a recent Arab summit emphasized collective defense strategies. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are now strengthening their ties as part of this new regional trend. Their cooperation aims to prepare for future security challenges.

At the same time, the agreement connects to other global issues. In May, India and Pakistan saw a brief border clash. Then in June, Iran and Israel fought a 12-day war. These events have increased the urgency for closer defense partnerships. Both countries now see each other as key allies in an unpredictable world.

Overall, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit shows Pakistan’s growing role in regional diplomacy. His speech at the investment summit will highlight Pakistan’s commitment to economic growth and global cooperation. Meanwhile, the meetings with Saudi leaders will focus on long-term defense and political ties. This visit could mark a turning point in the Pakistan-Saudi relationship. It may also help shape future peace efforts in the wider region.
