Police scored a significant success in the Kacha area on Sunday, as six members of the notorious Sukhani gang surrendered during a targeted operation, District Police Officer (DPO) Farooq Amjad confirmed. The operation was launched at the gang’s hideout, where an intense exchange of fire took place. Surrounded by police from all sides, the outlaws were compelled to surrender along with their weapons, averting further bloodshed. Among those arrested was Meer Haji Sukhani, a high-profile criminal with a bounty of Rs 3 million announced by the Punjab government. The gang members were reportedly wanted in multiple cases of murder, robbery, and kidnapping, and had long been a source of terror in the region. Following the surrender, police set the gang’s hideout ablaze to prevent it from being used again as a base of operations. DPO Farooq Amjad stated that the crackdown was initiated in response to a recent deadly attack by Kacha-based dacoits on a police patrol, which resulted in the martyrdom of one constable and injuries to two others. He added that police operations in the Kacha region are ongoing, and have so far led to the arrest of several proclaimed offenders and their facilitators. The DPO reiterated the department’s resolve to completely eliminate criminal elements from the area and ensure lasting peace through sustained and coordinated action.
