Naval Chief strengthens US ties with focus on maritime security

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf visited the United States to strengthen defence ties and maritime cooperation. The visit focused on deepening bilateral engagement between the Pakistan Navy and US military and diplomatic officials. Admiral Ashraf met top US naval leaders, including Vice Admiral Yvette Davids and Vice Admiral Thomas G. Allan Jr. These meetings explored shared goals in maritime security and professional collaboration.

The Admiral also visited the US State Department, where he held talks with Stanley L. Brown. Brown is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs. Discussions covered politico-military cooperation, joint maritime efforts, and regional security dynamics. Both sides agreed on the importance of regular exchanges and training programs. They stressed the need for strong capacity-building initiatives in the face of rising maritime threats.

Admiral Ashraf also called on Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin, President of the US National Defence University. He emphasized the role of academic and military institutions in shaping defence strategy. During his engagements, the naval chief highlighted Pakistan Navy’s commitment to peace and regional stability. He underscored the need for constant combat readiness to counter evolving challenges.

In addition, Admiral Ashraf addressed US scholars and think tank experts. He spoke about growing maritime security issues in the Indian Ocean region. He also shared Pakistan Navy’s role in global maritime collaborations. The audience appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to international security efforts. His talk promoted better understanding of regional naval challenges.

Overall, the visit strengthened defence diplomacy between Pakistan and the US. It reinforced shared commitments to maritime peace, professional growth, and strategic cooperation. Both navies pledged to continue joint efforts in enhancing regional and global maritime security.
