LAHORE: The Punjab government’s ambitious “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing programme has provided loans to over 95,000 families across the province to help them construct their own homes, marking a major milestone in the government’s social welfare and development agenda.
The progress was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, where Program Director Waleed Baig briefed participants on the implementation of the scheme.

According to the latest figures, 95,600 families have so far benefited from the scheme by receiving housing construction loans. Of the 82,931 houses currently under construction, 20,940 have been completed, while 59,510 families have been issued the second installment to continue or complete their home construction.
Under the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government aims to reach 100,000 families by the end of October 2025, signaling the successful completion of the first major phase of the housing initiative.
A spokesperson for the Housing Department confirmed that more than Rs113 billion has been disbursed in the form of interest-free loans to eligible families. Over the next five years, the government plans to extend this support to half a million families, facilitating large-scale home ownership across Punjab.

The “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” initiative is being implemented under three primary models:

The programme’s broader goal is to construct 100,000 homes over 4.5 years, with an estimated potential to generate around 500,000 jobs. Officials say the project will not only provide shelter but also drive economic activity, uplift marginalized communities, and improve living standards for thousands of low-income households.
Described by government officials as a “beacon of hope” for Punjab’s working-class population, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme aims to transform housing accessibility and deliver lasting socioeconomic impact across the province.
