ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari has said that equal, safe, and affordable access to food is a fundamental right of every human being, stressing that ensuring food security is a collective responsibility, not just that of the government.
In his message on World Food Day, observed globally on October 16, President Zardari said this year’s theme — “Water is Life, Water is Food. Leave No One Behind” — highlights the urgent need for joint action to build a sustainable and hunger-free future.
He noted that agriculture remains the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and the main source of livelihood for millions of people. However, he warned that challenges such as climate change, floods, and inflation are deepening food insecurity, leaving many families unable to afford balanced and nutritious meals.

Expressing concern over rising child malnutrition, the president said the government is promoting climate-resilient farming, improving water and land management, and strengthening food supply systems to reduce hunger and poverty.
He added that relief measures for flood victims are ongoing and that preventing food wastage, increasing agricultural productivity, and protecting vulnerable communities are top priorities for the government.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, President Zardari stated, “Our goal is that no child sleeps hungry and that every household has access to food.”
The president’s message underscores the need for collaborative national and global efforts to ensure food sustainability and equitable access, especially amid growing climate and economic pressures.
