Bilawal orders KP Governor: Swear in new CM now

Published on: October 14, 2025 8:20 PM

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has instructed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to immediately travel to Peshawar. He asked the governor to implement the court’s order without any delay. Bilawal made the remarks during a private event in Karachi. He emphasized the governor’s constitutional duty to act promptly. Bilawal also offered to ask Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to provide a plane for the governor’s quick travel.

Following Bilawal’s instructions, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi prepared for immediate departure to Peshawar. He told the media he never refused to take the oath. He assured that he will follow the law and constitution. Kundi confirmed he submitted his reply to the High Court. He promised to reach Peshawar by night to fulfill his duties.

Kundi explained governors do not have their own aircraft. He appreciated the Sindh chief minister’s support in providing a plane. When asked about his private talks with Bilawal, he declined to share details. The governor’s move comes amid ongoing political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The political crisis began when former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur resigned last week on orders from PTI chief Imran Khan. However, Governor Kundi has not yet accepted Gandapur’s resignation. Meanwhile, the KP Assembly elected Suhail Afridi as the new chief minister. The opposition rejected Afridi’s election and plans to challenge it in court.

The Peshawar High Court ordered the governor to administer the oath to Suhail Afridi by 4 pm tomorrow. If the governor fails to act, the court instructed the speaker to administer the oath. This ruling puts pressure on Governor Kundi to comply quickly. The political situation remains tense as the deadline approaches.
