Kremlin welcomes Trump’s focus on Ukraine peace efforts

Published on: October 14, 2025 5:32 PM

The Kremlin has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s renewed focus on pursuing peace in Ukraine following his success in helping broker a ceasefire in Gaza. Moscow described the shift as a positive step toward ending the ongoing conflict, which has caused widespread devastation since 2022. Russian officials expressed hope that diplomatic channels would now be prioritized to achieve a lasting resolution.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia remains open to dialogue and peace talks with Ukraine. He said Moscow was ready to engage in constructive discussions that could lead to stability in the region. Peskov added that peace was always Russia’s preferred goal, and any efforts from Washington that encourage negotiations would be welcomed.

Furthermore, Peskov emphasized that the United States holds significant influence over Ukraine and could use that power to encourage Kyiv to return to the negotiation table. He noted that Russia has repeatedly shown willingness to discuss terms that ensure mutual security while addressing both nations’ concerns. However, he stressed that dialogue must be based on realism and mutual respect, not external pressure.

The Kremlin also viewed Trump’s diplomatic involvement in multiple global conflicts as an opportunity to reduce tensions worldwide. Following his active role in securing a Gaza ceasefire, Trump reportedly expressed interest in turning his attention to the Ukraine conflict. Moscow sees this as a chance for the US to adopt a more balanced approach that focuses on mediation rather than confrontation.

As global attention shifts from the Middle East to Eastern Europe, analysts suggest that Trump’s peace efforts could mark a turning point in international diplomacy. If successful, his approach may pave the way for renewed negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. The Kremlin, meanwhile, continues to signal openness to meaningful talks aimed at restoring peace and ensuring regional security.
