A session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was summoned for October 13 to elect the next chief minister, as Governor Faisal Karim Kundi confirmed the receipt of Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation from the top provincial slot on Saturday.
KPA Speaker Babar Saleem Swati posted the schedule for Monday’s session on his X account. It said the election for the next chief minister would be held on the date.
On Wednesday, Gandapur said that he resigned from his role as the provincial chief executive, while the party’s general secretary, Salman Akram Raja, confirmed that party founder Imran Khan directed Sohail Afridi to assume the CM’s role.
However, his resignation letter, which was shared with the media the previous night, had apparently gotten lost in red tape, with the Governor’s house denying having ever received it.

“Today at 2:30 pm, the handwritten resignation advice of the CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was duly received and acknowledged by Governor House,” Kundi posted on X earlier in the day.
The receipt of the resignation has also been formally acknowledged.
The Governor said that, in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan and relevant laws, the resignation will undergo verification and all legal requirements will be fulfilled before it is processed through the constitutional procedure.
He added that the Governor’s House will ensure transparency and adherence to all constitutional and legal norms while handling the matter.
According to sources, following the resignation of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Governor’s House has completed the initial legal formalities related to the matter. However, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has decided to seek a final constitutional opinion on Monday.
Meanwhile, the PTI has reached out to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) for support in the upcoming election of the Chief Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

A PTI delegation visited the JUI central office to discuss cooperation and seek backing for PTI’s nominated candidate for Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi.
During the meeting, PTI formally requested JUI’s support for Sohail Afridi in the provincial assembly’s upcoming session scheduled for Monday, where the election of the Chief Minister will take place.
PTI’s Junaid Akbar stated that the party had come “to unite the province” and hoped JUI would support their candidate in the spirit of cooperation.
“We are not just seeking votes—we want to form a joint government that can deliver for the people,” he emphasized.
He further revealed that PTI had also established contact with the Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as part of broader efforts to build consensus on future governance.
“We will also visit Bacha Khan Markaz,” Akbar confirmed, referring to the ANP’s headquarters.
Separately, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that the officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army fought terrorism with unmatched bravery and determination, while some elements continue to obstruct peace efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, the information minister said that “Tehreek-e-Inteshar” (PTI) is the only political group that shows no regard for the sacrifices of the martyrs or the integrity of Pakistan. He said the party’s only interest lies in creating division in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, worsening the situation, and providing safe havens to terrorists.
Tarar said that the founder of PTI and his party had acted as facilitators and supporters of terrorists at both national and international levels, adding that their conduct has always been detrimental to the country’s unity and stability.
He said that Pakistanis are the only nation whose children have also sacrificed their lives in the war against terrorism, citing the APS tragedy as a heartbreaking example of courage and sacrifice. “The children of APS wrote the story of sacrifice with their blood,” he said, adding that the people of Khuzdar and countless others also laid down their lives for Pakistan.
