Government, JAAC Reach Landmark Agreement to End AJK Unrest

Published on: October 4, 2025 9:35 AM

MUZAFFARABAD— The final round of negotiations between the government delegation and the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has successfully concluded, resulting in a landmark agreement that brings an end to weeks of protests and unrest across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The breakthrough was confirmed on Friday when both sides formally signed the agreement, paving the way for the restoration of calm in the region.

Federal Minister and member of the Prime Minister’s negotiation committee Tariq Fazal Chaudhry announced the development, describing the agreement as a “victory for peace.” In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he said that protesters were now returning to their homes and that all major roads had been reopened, marking a return to normalcy.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal hailed the accord as a “victory for Pakistan, Azad Kashmir, and democracy.” He commended the spirit of dialogue and mutual respect that enabled the peaceful resolution of the standoff.

Iqbal acknowledged that public grievances in recent weeks had created a tense atmosphere, but credited both local and national leadership for demonstrating patience and foresight.

He further added that the Joint Action Committee had rightfully raised citizens’ concerns, and that the federal government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had taken those voices seriously

The agreement marks a significant step toward stability in the region, reaffirming the power of dialogue in resolving political and social tensions through peaceful means.
