KMC to regularly hold cultural events for revival of Karachi’s heritage

Published on: October 4, 2025 1:24 AM

In a landmark step towards reviving the true spirit of Karachi and restoring its identity as the City of Lights and the City of Literacy, Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has directed the Department of Culture and Sports to organize cultural and Sufi events on a regular basis.

This initiative, envisioned as a celebration of Karachi’s multicultural soul, will not only highlight the city’s vibrant artistic and literary traditions but also provide citizens with opportunities for healthy recreation, harmony, and togetherness.

The series of cultural activities will include Sufi music nights, literary gatherings, anniversaries of great poets, and commemorative events honoring legendary figures of art, literature, and history. These events will be held at iconic cultural venues such as Frere Hall, Denso Hall, Khaliq Dina Hall, and other historic landmarks of the city.

As a symbolic beginning, KMC is organizing a special event dedicated to the memory of Hazrat Ameer Khusro on his 770th anniversary. Known as the “Parrot of India” and father of Qawwali, Hazrat Khusro’s legacy resonates deeply with Karachi’s diverse cultural fabric, reflecting love, tolerance, and harmony.

Speaking on the initiative, KMC spokesperson Daniyal Siyal said: “Under the vision and directives of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, KMC is going beyond infrastructure development. We are equally committed to providing facilities of culture, sports, and recreation for our citizens. Reviving the city’s cultural heartbeat is essential for building a progressive, inclusive, and enlightened Karachi.”

The Mayor has emphasized that these cultural programs will serve as a unifying force, bringing together citizens from all walks of life to celebrate Karachi’s shared heritage. By reviving spaces of learning and culture, KMC aims to rekindle the light of knowledge, music, poetry, and art across the metropolis.

Karachi, once known as the heartbeat of South Asia’s cultural and literary scene, is being reawakened. Through this cultural renaissance, KMC envisions a brighter, more harmonious, and culturally enriched future for its people.
