The Asia Cup trophy saga has intensified tensions within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), as India and Pakistan remain locked in a standoff that has split the organization into rival groups. Reports confirm that despite India’s championship victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remains furious over not receiving the trophy. ACC President Mohsin Naqvi’s firm stance has further inflamed the issue, with whispers of a no-confidence motion against him now circulating.
At the center of the dispute is Mohsin Naqvi’s insistence that the Indian captain personally collect the trophy from the ACC office, a position India finds unacceptable. Initially, the BCCI had instructed its captain Suryakumar Yadav not to receive the trophy from Naqvi, but frustration has grown as the trophy remains unclaimed in Dubai. The Indian board is now restless to secure it, while the matter remains unresolved and politically charged.
The rift has visibly divided the ACC membership. Bangladesh has aligned with Pakistan, while Sri Lanka has supported India, and Afghanistan has alternated between sides. During the Asia Cup final, no senior Sri Lankan official attended in solidarity with the BCCI, but Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Aminul Islam stood beside Naqvi and handed the runners-up cheque to Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha. Attempts by Indian media to stir controversy over Salman allegedly discarding the cheque were dismissed as propaganda by board insiders.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that India plans to push a no-confidence motion against Naqvi in the upcoming ACC meetings. However, Pakistan is prepared to resist, recalling how its cricket diplomacy previously thwarted India’s effort to shift an ACC meeting out of Dhaka. Despite its embarrassment, the BCCI could not boycott that session, and officials expect a similar outcome if new confrontations arise.
Amid the controversy, Indian media has circulated stories suggesting that Naqvi apologized to the BCCI, but he categorically denied such claims. In a strong rebuttal, he declared that Indian media thrives on lies and propaganda, while stressing that he has never and will never apologize for fulfilling his duties as ACC President.

Naqvi also accused India of dragging politics into cricket, saying such behavior damages the true spirit of the game. He emphasized that he was ready to present the trophy on the day of the final and remains open to handing it over at the ACC office whenever the Indian team wishes to collect it.
