Animal rights groups will hold the Bezubaan March in Lahore on October 4 to protest stray dog culling. The rally is planned on World Animal Day and aims to raise awareness about the rights of animals in Pakistan. Organisers say the event is open to everyone who wishes to speak up for animals who cannot defend themselves.

The march will be led by Faltoo Sey Paltoo, Jaandar Animal Welfare Organisation, and Environmental and Animal Rights Consultants Pakistan. It will take place at Faisal Chowk from 3pm to 6pm. Organisers said justice is not optional, and no one can act above the law. They stressed that court rulings declared stray dog culling illegal, but killings continue, especially in housing societies where guards often shoot animals.
Recent incidents show how widespread animal abuse remains in the country. In September, two men cut off a camel’s leg after it strayed onto their land. In July, police arrested a social media influencer in Lahore for torturing cats, rabbits, and other animals on video. These shocking cases reveal the urgent need for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws.
Authorities have made some progress. The Police Animal Rescue Centre in Lahore rescued 1,379 animals over two years. Punjab also launched the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Policy 2021 to control the dog population in a humane way. But organisers believe the policy must be properly enforced to end cruelty.
