Trump hails Pakistan’s praise for averting India war

Published on: October 1, 2025 11:00 PM

US President Donald Trump has once again highlighted his role in halting an intense four-day conflict between Pakistan and India, crediting his intervention with saving millions of lives. Speaking to American military commanders in Virginia, Trump said he personally contacted leaders in both countries during the clashes earlier this year, when aerial combat escalated into one of the largest dogfights in modern warfare.

The US president recalled that the situation was deteriorating quickly after Pakistan shot down several Indian aircraft, including advanced French Rafale jets, which India later admitted losing without confirming exact numbers. He explained that he warned both sides of immediate trade consequences if the fighting continued, which eventually pushed the nuclear rivals toward a ceasefire. On May 10, Trump announced the agreement through a social media post, calling it a major diplomatic breakthrough.

Trump emphasized that his use of trade leverage proved decisive in stopping the conflict, stressing that nuclear powers must not be allowed to drift into a devastating war. He also expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s military leadership, particularly Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, who publicly praised him for preventing bloodshed. Trump said he was deeply honored when Munir acknowledged his efforts during recent meetings in Washington.

The president added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir had visited the White House just days ago, where both reaffirmed appreciation for his diplomatic intervention. Trump said that Asim Munir’s words, describing him as a man who “saved millions of lives,” were among the most powerful compliments he had ever received in office. White House officials present, including Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, described the exchange as highly moving.

Highlighting his broader diplomatic efforts, Trump compared the India-Pakistan truce to other conflicts he claims to have helped resolve within the first nine months of his administration. He also linked it to his recently announced peace plan for Gaza, which seeks approval from Hamas and has already gained support from Arab and Muslim nations. By stressing these successes, Trump positioned himself as a leader capable of preventing wars that could spiral into catastrophic consequences.

Observers see Trump’s statements as another sign of warming ties between Washington and Islamabad, with Pakistan’s leadership openly recognizing his mediation role. For Trump, the acknowledgment serves not only as validation of his foreign policy approach but also as a symbol of growing cooperation with a key regional partner at a critical time.
