Despite tall claims and heavy sources with a system of surveillance and security cameras installed on every road, the police are unable to rein in the crimes. The Punjab Police’s claims of crime control seem to be false. The facts remain the same throughout the province as of June.
In the first eight months of this year, 788,966 criminal cases were registered across Punjab, including Lahore. 20 per cent of Punjab’s total crime was reported in Lahore city.
The highest number of cases was reported in Lahore with 194,498 cases. Faisalabad was in second place with 53,843 cases. Gujranwala was in third place with 52,561 cases, and Multan was in sixth place with 46,571. Sheikhupura was in fifth place with 35,393 cases.
Last year, nearly 1.14 million criminal cases were registered, and this year, there has been no decrease in the rate of case registration. Despite the claims of free registration of FIRs, 50,000 complaints were received in the IG’s complaint cell alone. More than 10,000 cases were registered by the IG complaint cell.
