The Karachi Traffic Police have issued a strong warning to citizens after a sudden rise in fake SMS messages falsely claiming to be official traffic challans.
According to the department, some fraudsters are sending text messages to people, asking them to pay their “challans” through EasyPaisa. Officials stressed that these messages are fake and have no link with the Karachi Traffic Police or any government office.
Sharing the alert on its social media, the police said: “Some fraudulent elements have been sending false SMS messages to citizens regarding traffic challan payments through EasyPaisa. These messages are fake, misleading, and fraudulent.”
The police further clarified that they never send challan notifications from personal mobile numbers. Citizens have been urged to ignore such suspicious messages, avoid transferring money to private accounts, and always use official platforms to check or pay fines.
Motorists were also reminded to protect their personal information and contact the Traffic Police helpline in case of any confusion.
The warning comes as authorities continue to fight cyber fraud and protect residents from scams targeting unsuspecting citizens.
