DI KHAN: Tragedy struck on Dana Sar Road in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday when a mini-truck carrying a nomad family plunged into a deep ravine, leaving 12 people dead and three others seriously injured, police confirmed.
According to officials, the accident occurred when the vehicle’s brakes failed while navigating the mountainous stretch. The victims, members of a family migrating from Khanuzai in Balochistan to DI Khan for the winter season, included women, children, and three men.
Police said the injured were initially given first aid at the scene before being shifted to hospital for treatment. Local residents joined emergency responders in carrying out the rescue operation in the remote area.
Road accidents are frequent in Pakistan, where poorly maintained roads, reckless driving, and weak enforcement of traffic laws continue to claim lives.
Earlier in May, five policemen—including Assistant Director Zakir Awan and Inspector General’s Reader Ali Bukhari—lost their lives when their vehicle skidded off the road into a ravine in Dhirkot tehsil of Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Bagh district.
