The Lahore Arts Council screened the acclaimed Iranian film The Salesman at its Film Club, drawing an appreciative audience eager to experience world cinema of the highest calibre.
Directed by celebrated Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, the film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and is widely recognized for its profound storytelling and powerful performances.
The narrative follows the lives of Emad and Rana, a couple whose world changes after their home collapses, forcing them into a new apartment where a tragic incident shatters their peace. Emad’s search for justice and Rana’s struggle with trauma unfold against the backdrop of their work in theatre, revealing the tension between dignity, resilience and the human cost of violence.
Audiences at Alhamra praised the screening, noting the memorable experience of watching international cinema in a space dedicated to thought, dialogue, and cultural enrichment. Iranian cinema, they observed, is celebrated worldwide for its artistic finesse and exploration of deep human dilemmas-qualities exemplified in The Salesman.
Chairman Alhamra, Razi Ahmed, remarked: “The bond between Alhamra and cinema is one of creation, reflection, and inspiration.”
Executive Director Alhamra, Mahboob Alam, added: “The Alhamra Film Club is not just about entertainment; it connects our youth with world cinema and transforms film viewing into a meaningful intellectual dialogue.”
