Army joins Punjab survey of flood damages

Published on: September 25, 2025 10:22 PM

The federal government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Punjab to conduct a detailed survey of flood damages after a formal request from the provincial government. Official deployment orders have already been issued, confirming that the army’s services will be utilized across 27 districts severely affected by the recent floods. The survey is expected to provide a clear picture of the overall impact on communities, livelihoods, and infrastructure.

As part of the initiative, joint survey teams will be formed, including army personnel and representatives of civil authorities, to assess losses comprehensively. These surveys will cover human lives lost, property destruction, crop devastation, livestock damages, and infrastructure collapse. By gathering precise data, the government hopes to design an effective rehabilitation and compensation plan for affected citizens, ensuring transparency and fairness in relief distribution.

Furthermore, the floods have inflicted massive human and financial losses, making such an assessment critical for future planning. Entire villages were submerged, displacing thousands of families, while widespread crop and livestock destruction crippled rural economies. With infrastructure also heavily damaged, the province now faces an urgent need for accurate estimates to prioritize reconstruction efforts. This survey will serve as the foundation for long-term recovery policies.

Importantly, the federal government has invoked Article 245 of the Constitution to deploy the army for this task, underlining the gravity of the situation. The involvement of the Pakistan Army reflects the seriousness with which both federal and provincial governments are addressing the crisis. Their participation is expected to enhance efficiency and ensure a coordinated approach, strengthening the credibility of the overall survey results.

During the disaster, the Pakistan Army had already played a central role in rescue operations, shifting thousands of stranded citizens to safe locations. Now, by participating in damage assessments, the military will extend its support from emergency response to long-term recovery. This demonstrates a continued commitment to helping affected communities and rebuilding lives.

Ultimately, the upcoming survey represents a crucial step in addressing Punjab’s post-flood challenges. With accurate data and the combined efforts of civilian and military institutions, authorities aim to provide timely assistance, rebuild damaged infrastructure, and restore normalcy for countless families across the flood-affected districts.
