Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mom is pleading on his behalf. In a letter asking for “mercy” from US District Judge Arun Subramanian, who is in charge of sentencing the Bad Boy Records founder in October, Janice Combs acknowledged her son’s shortcomings.
“Unfortunately, my son has made some terrible mistakes in his life,” she wrote in the letter obtained by E! News, “which I know he recognises.” While Diddy was acquitted of his sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges in July, he was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, which could each carry up to 10 years in prison. However, prosecutors formally requested a prison sentence of 51 to 63 months, according to NBC News at the time.
Meanwhile, Janice pleaded with the judge to consider a more lenient sentence, noting how her son rose above his childhood trauma-including the deaths of his father and uncle-to become a “very successful” businessman and a “caring, loving” dad to his kids.
“I will never excuse any wrong doing committed by Sean,” she continued. “I was always very strict with him growing up. I appeal to the kindness of your heart to allow my son to be able to sit at a dinner table with his family. To allow him to raise his children and to instill in them the need to be respectful, get an education and just be God’s children with love in their hearts.” The 84-year-old also referenced how four of Diddy’s kids-Quincy, 34, King, 27, and twins Jessie and D’lila, 18-lost their mom Kim Porter in 2018.
“I beg your honor to let him help them through the healing processes from the loss of their mother,” she wrote, “and the pain and sleepless nights they have had since Sean’s incarceration.”
And in a final plea, Janice explained that her health “has deteriorated these last couple of years” due to two brain surgeries and her diabetes, which has affected her heart.
“I don’t know how much longer I will be around,” she added, “but I would love to be able to see him and his children together again.” E! News has reached out to reps for Diddy for comment and has not yet heard back.
