The Balochistan High Court on Monday granted bail to tribal elder Sardar Sherbaz Khan Satakzai in a shocking honour killing case. He was arrested in July after a man and woman were killed in Degari, Quetta.
Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kasi, presiding over a single-judge bench, approved Satakzai’s release on Rs500,000 surety bonds. The bail came after hearing arguments from both sides.
Police said Satakzai, as a tribal chief, endorsed the killings through a jirga. Acting on the order, the woman’s brother fatally shot his 40-year-old sister, Bano Bibi, while a man, Ehsanullah, was also killed at the same time.
The crime emerged after a video of the shooting went viral on social media more than a month later. Authorities launched a probe and arrested several people connected to the incident, including Satakzai.
So far, 17 people have been arrested, including Bano Bibi’s mother and another brother. The main shooter remains at large. The honour killing case continues to draw national attention
