‘Not a rival anymore’: India captain dismisses Pakistan in t20 cricket

Published on: September 22, 2025 4:15 PM

India captain Suryakumar Yadav said Pakistan is no longer a true rival after India’s recent dominant win. India beat Pakistan by six wickets in the Asia Cup Super Four match on Sunday. This win made India’s record 11 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie against Pakistan in T20 cricket. Suryakumar said a rivalry needs close results, but India has clearly dominated. He said, “If the score is 7-7 or 8-7, it is a rivalry. But 13-0 or 10-1, it is not.”

The match took place amid ongoing tensions between the two countries after a recent military conflict. Due to this, players did not shake hands after the match, showing strained relations. Despite the tension, the match drew lots of attention from fans on both sides. The political situation adds pressure, but the players focused on the game. Suryakumar spoke openly about the current cricket dynamics between the teams.

Although India won, the team dropped four catches during the match. Suryakumar said the fielding coach has already contacted players to fix these mistakes. He told reporters that players with weak catches must meet the coach soon. He also said that dropped catches are part of cricket. However, India needs to improve ahead of the next match. This shows the team’s focus on continuous improvement.

India now prepares for its next Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on Wednesday in Dubai. Suryakumar said this match will be crucial for their tournament progress. The team plans to fix their fielding problems quickly before the game. Suryakumar sounded confident about the team’s ability to stay strong. He remains hopeful about winning more matches in the tournament.

Suryakumar said Pakistan is no longer India’s main rival in T20 cricket. India has dominated the head-to-head record clearly. Still, political tensions affect relations between the teams off the field. India aims to improve its fielding while maintaining winning form. The focus now shifts to the next big game against Bangladesh.
