Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that lasting peace and normal relations between Pakistan and India cannot be achieved without resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute. Addressing an Overseas Pakistanis Convention in London, he criticised New Delhi’s rigid approach and urged India to behave like a cooperative neighbour rather than a hostile one. He said that ignoring Kashmir while expecting improved relations is nothing more than living in a fool’s paradise, stressing that Pakistan seeks dialogue on the basis of equality and fairness.
Highlighting the heavy costs of hostility, Shehbaz pointed out that both countries have spent billions of dollars on wars instead of investing in welfare and development. He noted that Pakistan and India are neighbours who must learn to coexist peacefully, but reiterated that there can be no normalisation of ties without justice for Kashmir. He emphasised that the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people will not go in vain, and Pakistan will continue to stand firmly by them.
The prime minister also praised overseas Pakistanis, particularly those living in the United Kingdom, for their immense contributions to the national economy. He revealed that remittances from overseas workers had reached $48.5 billion this year, calling them a vital pillar of the country’s economic stability. He assured that his government is fully committed to protecting the rights of overseas Pakistanis and representing their concerns effectively at all international platforms.
Condemning the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, Shehbaz strongly criticised Israeli aggression and underlined that over 64,000 civilians have lost their lives due to indiscriminate attacks. He further stressed that the deliberate denial of food, water, and medical supplies to Palestinians constitutes a grave violation of human rights. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and called for immediate global action to end the suffering.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Atta Tarar told reporters that Shehbaz’s speech was historic and powerful, covering issues ranging from diplomacy and economic challenges to counterterrorism operations. He added that the prime minister’s address will be broadcast to the nation, ensuring that his message of peace, justice, and resilience reaches all Pakistanis.
Looking ahead, Shehbaz Sharif will depart for the United States from London on Sunday to attend the United Nations General Assembly session on September 26. He is also scheduled to participate in a special session on Gaza, where he will once again highlight Pakistan’s firm stance on Palestine, Kashmir, and broader regional peace. His engagements at the UN are expected to reinforce Pakistan’s diplomatic vision on global issues.
