Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has welcomed the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence agreement and congratulated the Prime Minister and his entire team. Speaking to the media in Karachi, he called the deal a “positive development” and stressed the importance of honouring promises made to the city.
Bilawal expressed hope that the Prime Minister would follow through on his commitment to accelerate development projects in Karachi. He also urged political leaders to avoid playing politics during natural disasters. “We don’t politicize crises, but our opponents leave no opportunity,” he said, referring to the aftermath of recent floods.
The PPP chairman highlighted that provinces like Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suffered heavy damage during the historic floods. He mentioned requesting the Prime Minister to provide aid through the Benazir Income Support Programme and called for international assistance, which he said had not yet been formally sought.
On the defence pact, Bilawal said, “An attack on Pakistan is an attack on Saudi Arabia. This agreement shows strong mutual defence cooperation.” He praised the strategic alignment and said Pakistan had proven its strength before, notably during conflicts with India.
Finally, he stressed that the people in flood-hit areas, especially in Punjab and rural Sindh, still need urgent help. He urged the federal government to take quick action and called for international humanitarian support, saying it is the right of flood-affected citizens.
