Process of consultation with the provincial governments has been initiated to formulate Pakistan’s first comprehensive wheat policy. On Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s direction, Federal Minister for Industries & Production, National Food Security & Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Both leaders held comprehensive discussions on the proposed wheat policy.
Federal Minister Rana Tanveer appreciated Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her tireless efforts in providing prompt relief to flood-affected people across Punjab. They also focused on improving strategic wheat reserves for the coming year in view of the recent flood emergency in Punjab. Matters pertaining to development of wheat management strategy were also discussed in the meeting. Madam Chief Minister briefed the Federal Minister on steps being taken by the Punjab government to enhance wheat production in the province.
Meanwhile, ration, tents and clean water have been sent to flood-affected villages of Alipur on Rescue 1122 boats late last night on the directives of the CM.
On her directions, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister For Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, Minister For Communication & Works Sohaib Ahmad Bharth and Minister For Education Rana Sikandar Hayat left for Bait Norwala, Kotla Agar, Kanderal, Bait Borara, Lati and Bait Mullah, where they would visit the flood-affected areas in the region. Madam Chief Minister was briefed by the relevant authorities that operation to provide tents, water, dry rations and fodder for livestock in the flood-affected areas would be completed at the earliest.
Separately, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said in her message on International Day for the preservation of Ozone Layer that ozone is a protector of our environment, saving which is the most important duty of humanity.
She added that its destruction means diseases, crop failure and threats to the future of new generation. She highlighted that climate change has changed the rainfall patterns, Punjab is suffering its consequences in the form of recent devastating floods.
Chief Minister underscored that for the first time, a comprehensive environmental policy had been devised for Punjab so that the earth remained safe for children. She said that Punjab would introduce eco-friendly electric buses that would run on clean energy and reduce pollution. She added that atmosphere is also being made breathable by planting trees under “Plant for Pakistan” campaign.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif noted that Punjab is rapidly moving towards green energy, solarization and eco-friendly projects. She said that ozone protection is not just a responsibility of the government, but every citizen should play his due role for the purpose.
She appealed to the public to join hands in making air, water and land safe for future generations. She added that Punjab is moving towards a green, clean and safe future, the journey will not stop now.
