Afghanistan loses star bowler ahead of Asia Cup clash

Published on: September 15, 2025 5:32 PM

Afghanistan cricket team suffered a major setback as fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq was ruled out of the Asia Cup. The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced that Naveen-ul-Haq has not fully recovered from a shoulder injury. Medical staff confirmed he is not fit to play in the remaining matches of the tournament. Therefore, he will miss the crucial games ahead.

To aid his recovery, Naveen-ul-Haq will travel to England for full fitness and rehabilitation. The Afghan board emphasized this decision was necessary for his long-term health. Meanwhile, the team named fast bowler Abdullah Ahmadzai as his replacement in the squad. This move aims to keep the team competitive during the Asia Cup.

Afghanistan had a strong start in the tournament by defeating Hong Kong by 94 runs in their opening match. They now prepare for their next game against Bangladesh, scheduled for tomorrow. The team hopes to maintain their winning momentum despite losing a key player. Coaches and players remain focused on performing well in the group stage.

Officials expressed confidence in Abdullah Ahmadzai’s ability to fill the gap left by Naveen-ul-Haq. They believe the young bowler can deliver under pressure and support the team’s bowling attack. This adjustment is vital as Afghanistan looks to advance further in the tournament. Fans are encouraged to support the team during this challenging period.

Afghanistan faces a tough challenge but remains determined to succeed. The team continues to train hard and stay united. With strong teamwork and new players stepping up, they aim for a deep run in the Asia Cup. Naveen-ul-Haq’s recovery remains a priority for the board moving forward.
