The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a firm stand following the controversial behavior of the match referee during the recent Asia Cup clash against India. Sources reveal that the PCB has formally informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that Pakistan will refuse to play any further matches in the Asia Cup unless the match referee is replaced.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the ICC against referee Andy Pycroft, accusing him of actions that violated the spirit of cricket. The PCB has demanded the immediate removal of Pycroft from the tournament.
The controversy began when Pycroft prohibited the customary handshake between the two captains after the toss before the India-Pakistan match. This decision drew sharp criticism from the Pakistan team management, with team manager Naveed Akram Cheema condemning the move as unfair and against cricketing traditions.
Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the referee’s conduct breached the ICC’s code of conduct, prompting the PCB to take a hardline approach. The incident has escalated tensions in an already politically charged tournament.
The PCB’s ultimatum signals a serious rift, and the cricketing world is closely watching how the ICC will respond to this demand ahead of the remaining Asia Cup matches.
