Shehbaz lands in Qatar for urgent summit on Israeli airstrikes

Published on: September 15, 2025 2:45 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left for Doha on Monday to attend an emergency Arab-Islamic Summit. The summit was called after Israel launched deadly airstrikes on Qatar and amid worsening human rights violations in Palestine. Pakistan co-sponsored the summit, which is being held under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Heads of state and top officials from across the Muslim world are expected to participate.

PM Shehbaz is leading a high-level delegation on this one-day visit. He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi. The Prime Minister’s Office said the visit reflects Pakistan’s strong ties with Qatar. It also shows Islamabad’s deep concern over Israel’s aggression in the region.

This visit follows a similar trip by PM Shehbaz to Doha on September 11. During that visit, he met Qatari leaders and expressed full support for their sovereignty and regional stability. That trip came days after Israeli airstrikes on Qatari soil killed six people, including five Hamas members and one Qatari security officer. The attack drew widespread condemnation from countries around the world.

On Sunday, Foreign Minister Dar met his Egyptian counterpart in Doha during the summit’s preparatory talks. Both leaders condemned Israel’s attacks as illegal and dangerous. They stressed the need for unity among Muslim nations and reaffirmed support for the Palestinian people. Dar said these strikes were clear violations of international law and state sovereignty.

Pakistan has urged the UN Security Council to take firm action against Israel under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. Dar called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the exchange of prisoners. He also demanded that Israel be held accountable for its actions. Pakistan’s leadership says the summit is a show of Muslim unity and a call for lasting peace in the region.
