Karachi braces for more light showers

Published on: September 14, 2025 1:49 AM

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light rain and drizzle in Karachi over the next three days, with the sea breeze expected to remain intact. According to the PMD Early Warning Centre, the city will experience partly cloudy and humid conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C. Light rain or drizzle is likely in different parts of the city during this period.

The PMD said sea breeze would continue uninterrupted, helping to moderate conditions.

Elsewhere in Sindh, most districts are expected to remain hot and humid, though the eastern coastal belt may see occasional light rain or drizzle, the department added.

In August, more than 16 people, including women and children, lost their lives in various rain-related incidents across Karachi as the city was battered by heavy downpours. The fatalities occurred in wall collapses, electrocutions, and drowning incidents reported in different neighbourhoods.

Last week, rain also claimed more than five lives as torrential downpours paralysed Karachi, inundating neighbourhoods and sweeping away vehicles. Over 400 people were rescued as the army joined civil authorities in relief operations across flooded areas. Heavy monsoon rains also caused the Thado Dam in Gadap Town to overflow, submerging the Super Highway (M-9 Motorway) and severely disrupting traffic. The overflow inundated surrounding areas, streets, and alleys in Gadap Town. Residents of Scheme 33 and nearby localities spent the night in fear as floodwaters entered their neighbourhoods.
