COAS Munir: Pakistan can’t afford to lose lives to floods every year

Published on: September 13, 2025 12:37 PM

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, visited flood-affected areas in Kasur and Multan to review the situation. He stressed the need for strong coordination between civil and military institutions. During his visit, he received a detailed briefing on rescue and relief operations in the affected zones. He emphasized urgent infrastructure development to prevent repeated losses from floods. Munir also warned that the state cannot afford such damage year after year.

The army chief visited the Jalalpur Pirwala Flood Relief Camp and met with flood victims and local authorities. He assured the victims of continued support for their recovery and resettlement. Flood survivors expressed deep gratitude for the timely help from the army and civil administration. Munir praised the high morale and dedication of troops, Rescue 1122 workers, and police. He also conducted an aerial survey of affected areas along the Lahore-Kasur and Multan-Jalalpur Pirwala routes.

At the national level, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered federal agencies to remain fully alert for flood relief. He acknowledged the bravery of affected citizens, especially farmers, women, and children. On social media, he praised the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and leadership from other provinces. He said that despite the suffering, the people of Pakistan remain resilient and hopeful. The prime minister urged for joint action to tackle the crisis effectively.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Navy continues flood relief operations in Punjab and Sindh. Emergency teams are active in Jalalpur, Kashmore, Sukkur, and other areas. These teams use hovercrafts, rescue boats, and diving equipment to evacuate victims. In the past day, they rescued 478 people, raising the total to 6,860. Medical camps are also offering free treatment and medicines to those in need.

In Sindh, the Pakistan Army remains on high alert for possible flooding caused by recent rains. Troops and local officials inspected flood-prone areas and began building embankments. Preparation efforts in Sukkur, Guddu, Dadu, and Jamshoro are now complete. Army units are also providing free medical care at several locations. Relief work will continue as weather conditions evolve in the coming days.
