Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to stop their ongoing trial in the Toshakhana 2 case. The couple filed a miscellaneous petition through their lawyers, Barrister Salman Safdar and Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry.
The petition states that the trial court rejected their acquittal pleas in November 2024. They challenged that decision in the high court. Their appeal was filed on January 21, 2025. The last hearing took place on April 25, and the case has not been scheduled since.
According to the petitioners, this delay in hearing the appeal may affect their legal rights. They asked the court to stop the trial until the appeal is decided. They argued that continuing the trial without resolving the acquittal appeal would be unfair.
The petition also urged the court to fix an early date for hearing the appeal. They said the appeal is critical and must be addressed before the trial resumes. They claim that the appeal was ignored for months without explanation.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are facing the Toshakhana 2 case for allegedly misusing state gifts. Their legal team now hopes that the Islamabad High Court will intervene quickly to pause proceedings and hear their pending appeal.
