Pakistan demands UN action on Israel’s Qatar strike

Published on: September 12, 2025 2:27 PM

Pakistan has called on the UN Security Council to move beyond condemnation and hold Israel accountable for its recent strikes on Qatar. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, described the Israeli attack as “illegal and unprovoked aggression.” He stressed that this assault on Qatar is part of a broader pattern of Israeli violations that threaten regional peace and stability.

Speaking at an emergency UNSC meeting requested by Pakistan, Algeria, and Somalia, the ambassador condemned the Israeli strikes targeting Hamas negotiators in Doha. He highlighted that the attacks deliberately endangered civilians, breaching International Humanitarian Law. Pakistan expressed full solidarity with Qatar’s right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity under the UN Charter.

Ambassador Asim emphasized that Israel’s actions reflect a long history of aggressive military operations across the region. These include strikes in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen, all violating international law and destabilizing the Middle East. He warned that such behavior undermines global rule of law and encourages a dangerous culture of impunity.

In a show of regional unity, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is visiting Qatar with a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. This visit underlines Pakistan’s strong support for Qatar’s security and its commitment to peace and stability in the region. The ambassador urged the UNSC to take decisive action to uphold international law and protect peace mediators.

The emergency meeting was held under South Korea’s presidency of the Security Council. Pakistan reaffirmed that Israel’s aggression sets a dangerous precedent that threatens the security of all nations and called on the international community to ensure accountability for these violations.
