Karachi is facing severe floods after two days of continuous rain. The Malir and Lyari rivers have turned into raging streams. Water entered homes in low-lying areas like Saadi Town and Scheme 33. Roads, including parts of the M-9 Motorway, became impassable due to flooding. Heavy rainfall also caused dams like Thado and Mole to overflow.
As a result, nearby areas such as Machhar Colony, Sohrab Goth, and Khameeso Goth are underwater. Floodwaters swept away motorbikes, rickshaws, and even cars. Rescue teams rushed in to help stranded residents. The Pakistan Army and Rangers joined hands with Rescue 1122 teams. Together, they safely evacuated over 200 people from dangerous areas.
So far 318 people have been rescued & moved to safe place from around the arwas close to Lyari Naddi and teams are still present on ground. Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited the affected zones and monitored rescue operations. He said the water level in Lyari River is the highest he has ever seen. He also confirmed that the army was called in for help. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered close monitoring of dam flows. Officials were told to keep the public informed and safe.
Meanwhile, all schools in Karachi remained closed today. The city commissioner issued a notice for public and private schools to shut down. Some private schools had already informed parents earlier. The rain has also disrupted daily life and traffic flow. Roads and key crossings remain closed for safety reasons.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned of more heavy rain today. They said the weather system may shift to Balochistan by September 11. Until then, the risk of urban flooding remains high. Authorities continue relief efforts and urge citizens to stay indoors. The situation is serious, but rescue operations are helping bring some control.
