Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has denounced Israel’s recent airstrike in Doha as “state terrorism.” Speaking at his first press conference after the attack, he warned that reserved the right to respond and would not ignore this act of aggression.
The prime minister stressed that Qatar would move beyond mere statements and condemnations. He announced that all available means would be used to respond, including the formation of a legal team to hold Israel accountable. He said the incident marked a decisive turning point for the region, urging a united response against such acts of brutality.
Sheikh Mohammed added that the strike pushed the entire region towards chaos and instability. He accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of dragging the Middle East into disorder. He also revealed that the timing of the attack coincided with a Hamas meeting on U.S. ceasefire proposals, accusing Israel of deliberately sabotaging peace efforts.
The Qatari leader dismissed reports that the U.S. had notified Doha in advance of the Israeli strike. He clarified that American officials contacted Qatari authorities only ten minutes after the attack. He added that the drones were undetected on radar, preventing Qatar from intercepting the strike.
Despite the escalation, Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed that Qatar would continue its mediation efforts in Gaza. He emphasized that no power could stop Qatar from playing its role in ceasefire negotiations and regional stability. His remarks came after some foreign media outlets claimed that Qatar had suspended its mediation role, a claim he firmly rejected.
