Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the launch of a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation process for flood victims, with a detailed joint survey beginning on September 12 across the province. The initiative aims to assess damages and provide timely support to millions of people affected by the recent devastating floods.
A high-level meeting was held at the PDMA head office in Lahore, chaired by Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed. Senior officials from the home, irrigation, agriculture, local government, communication, and urban unit departments attended to finalize the framework for assistance and recovery efforts.
Relief Commissioner Javed confirmed that the survey will include representatives from the Pakistan Army, Urban Unit, revenue staff, and agriculture and livestock departments. The teams will record losses related to human casualties, crop destruction, damaged houses, and livestock deaths to ensure fair compensation.
Floods have so far affected 4,155 villages across Punjab, directly impacting more than 4.15 million people. The government has already announced that families of deceased victims will receive Rs. 1 million each, while those who lost homes—whether partially or fully—will also be compensated.
Additionally, financial assistance will be provided to farmers for destroyed crops and to livestock owners for their animal losses. This relief package is designed to reduce the economic burden on affected families and help them restart their livelihoods after widespread destruction.
The final approval of the package will be granted by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure transparency and proper allocation of resources. Authorities emphasized that the government remains fully committed to supporting victims until their rehabilitation is complete and normal life is restored in flood-hit areas.
