Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Monday that Pakistan continues to promote negotiations and mediation for the peaceful settlement of disputes, highlighting Kashmir and Palestine as ongoing threats to global peace. He emphasized that unresolved conflicts threaten regional stability, stressing that peace, security, and development remain impossible without addressing these long-standing issues through dialogue and cooperation.
Speaking at the curtain raiser ceremony of the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) set for November, Dar warned of increasing unilateralism, bloc politics, and defiance of the UN Charter. He said the world faces interconnected crises, ranging from climate disasters to poverty and inequality, all of which demand collective responses. Leaders, diplomats, and parliamentarians attended the event, underscoring its significance for international cooperation.
Dar noted that global financial structures are worsening inequalities and fueling poverty, which in turn undermines development goals. He called for urgent reforms in international financial systems to break the cycle of inequality and economic instability. According to him, fair and inclusive financial reforms are essential for building a more balanced and secure future for all nations.
He further stated that in today’s interconnected world, platforms like the ISC are critical for dialogue and mutual respect. By bringing together parliamentary leaders, the conference could promote solutions rooted in cooperation rather than conflict. He said such initiatives reflect Pakistan’s foreign policy, which is based on the UN Charter’s principles, including sovereignty, non-interference, and the right to self-determination.
Dar also highlighted Pakistan’s election to the United Nations Security Council with broad international support, calling it proof of the country’s growing role in global peace and security. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to using negotiations, mediation, and international platforms for resolving disputes and strengthening cooperation.
Turning to climate change, Dar warned that Pakistan once again faces devastating floods that have displaced millions and caused massive losses. He expressed hope that the upcoming ISC would provide strong partnerships and practical solutions to tackle challenges of peace, security, and sustainable development.
