Pakistan to host first-ever T20I tri-series with Sri Lanka, Afghanistan

Published on: September 7, 2025 3:38 PM

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the country will host its maiden T20 International tri-series in November, featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. The much-anticipated event will begin on November 17 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, where Pakistan will take on Afghanistan in the opening clash.

This tri-series is being seen as a key opportunity for all three teams to prepare ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be staged next year in India and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan will also make history by playing their first-ever T20 International in Pakistan, having earlier played only five One-Day Internationals in the country.

As per the official schedule, Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan on November 19 in Rawalpindi, while the remaining matches, including the all-important final on November 29, will be hosted at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. This arrangement will allow cricket fans in both Rawalpindi and Lahore to witness high-voltage international action.

Before the tri-series begins, Pakistan will also host South Africa in October and early November for a two-match Test series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27. Additionally, the home series will feature three T20Is and three ODIs, offering fans plenty of international cricket in back-to-back months.

PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed expressed excitement, stating that hosting Sri Lanka and Afghanistan for the first-ever T20I tri-series will not only boost preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup but also provide thrilling cricketing moments for fans. He emphasized that Pakistan’s successful hosting of recent ICC events has strengthened the board’s confidence in delivering world-class tournaments.

With the tri-series scheduled between November 17 and 29, cricket fans in Pakistan can look forward to a packed calendar of matches featuring some of the top stars from the three nations. The tournament promises both competitive cricket and an electrifying atmosphere across iconic venues.
