High flood threat persists in Ravi, Chenab and Sutlej rivers

Published on: September 7, 2025 12:47 PM

The flood situation in Punjab’s major rivers remains critical as fresh data from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and other departments confirmed dangerous water levels at key barrages. Authorities have warned local administrations to stay on high alert.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the Ravi River is witnessing a high flood at Head Baloki, where water flow has surged to 157,000 cusecs. At Head Sadhanai, the flow stands at 110,225 cusecs, while medium-level flooding has been reported at Head Sulemanki.

Similarly, the Sutlej River continues to record alarming levels. At Head Sulemanki, inflow and outflow have reached 132,916 cusecs, while near Burewala at Jamlera, water flow has risen further to 160,000 cusecs. Head Islam is also recording 103,465 cusecs, with 93,343 cusecs at Melsi Head Siphon.

The Chenab River is experiencing a particularly severe situation as the water flow at Chiniot has surged to 448,000 cusecs, officially classified as a high-level flood. Authorities fear further inundation if rains and upstream discharges continue.

Meanwhile, in Sindh, low-level flooding has been reported at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages. At Guddu, upstream inflow is 360,976 cusecs with downstream discharge at 325,046 cusecs, while Sukkur barrage shows inflow of 329,648 cusecs and discharge at 278,398 cusecs.

At Kotri Barrage, upstream inflow stands at 237,922 cusecs, with downstream discharge of 215,567 cusecs. Additionally, Trimmu Barrage is recording inflow and outflow of 375,593 cusecs, while Panjnad’s upstream flow has reached 206,439 cusecs, keeping officials on high alert.
