Air Force Day is being observed across Pakistan today with great pride and respect to honor the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and its unmatched achievements during the 1965 war. On September 7 of that year, the PAF not only foiled enemy plans but also achieved remarkable air superiority, showcasing bravery and professional skill that still inspire the nation.
This day is especially remembered for the heroics of Squadron Leader M.M. Alam, who made history by shooting down five Indian fighter jets in under a minute. His legendary feat remains an unparalleled chapter in military aviation and is celebrated as a symbol of courage and unmatched tactical brilliance. PAF pilots, with limited resources but unlimited determination, played a decisive role in defending Pakistan’s skies.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message, praised the extraordinary performance of the Air Force in the 1965 war. He stated that the PAF demonstrated unmatched courage and professionalism, defending the nation’s airspace with pride and distinction. He further emphasized that the modern strength of the Air Force remains a vital guarantee of Pakistan’s defense.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid rich tributes, saying that the PAF has consistently proven its dominance in aerial warfare through innovation, skill, and determination. He highlighted that the observance of Air Force Day reminds future generations of the dedication and bravery of those who defended the nation against overwhelming odds.
The nation is also remembering Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, the only PAF officer awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honor. A floral wreath was placed at his mausoleum, where prayers were offered in memory of his ultimate sacrifice, ensuring his place among Pakistan’s greatest heroes.
With ceremonies, tributes, and national pride, Air Force Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the country’s defenders. It also reflects the nation’s continued trust in the PAF’s ability to protect Pakistan’s skies with courage, resilience, and unmatched professionalism.
